Windows Hack

Does your computer take forever to shutdown or restart (mine did)? Here are a couple of registry edits to shave some time off your shutdown. Of course, before making ANY changes to your registry make sure you create a restore point. Seriously.

If you do not know how to create a restore point then do not attempt to make changes to your registry.

  • click start, run, type regedit, and press enter; then navigate in the left pane to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/desktop (or Desktop).
Double-click WaitToKillAppTimeout in the right pane and change the value data to 1000

  • Now double-click HungAppTimeout in the right pane of the same key, and change the value data to 2000

    Sweet.

Please remember that making changes to your registry can cause major problems if you are not careful. If you follow these simple instructions you should be good, but if you experience problems do a restore to an earlier date.
